Desert Raid II

Sorry I've been ill this week... and didn't feel like blogging. Now that I'm completely recovered and I have some free time, here I go with the second part of our adventures through the sand.

Best cars ever! And best driver too :)

It's surprising how the same sand of the same desert can show such different colors... depending on the sun's light, I guess.

By now you should be settled in the atmosphere again... Let's go with 'The shower' story. As I told you, there are no regular hotels down there, but if you order in advance you can have a camp all set up with most services included. They are usually located next to a little building or structure where there are toilets. However, in one of them there was no building. So, no toilet. Believe me when I say that once you finish the daily route all you wish for is a shower... and that was what we got:

Do I need to explain how this works? You fill one of these orange buckets, you bring it with you into one of the 'showers' and... good luck! Certainly not very attractive, specially if you literally have a tone of sand all over your body. Believe me, a tone.
Luckily, my dad's car has a shower (again: my dad's car has a shower!! Incredible, right?!) which we could perfectly use by placing it right next to the 'shower'.

Ta daaah! I told you! It's the best car EVER! :D And that felt like heaven.

I can easily swear that, up to now, this has been the most amazing and utterly beautiful sunset I have ever seen.

After 5 days of race... Happy faces and cold cava to celebrate the FINISH LINE! Great team!!

Last day is about crossing the country up to Hammamet, a beach destination near from the ferry departure spot. Due to it's a relaxed day, we try to make the most of it stopping to see what this land has to offer.

That's the Chott el Djerit, a huge salt lake which is nowadays mainly dry. It has an old famous abandoned bus in it that has been there for a while, as you see.

Yep, Star Wars set! Can't tell very much.. although I've visited this set twice or three times, I've never seen a Star Wars movie! Sorry, I promise I will.

Sidi Bou Said, a very cute town all in white and blue with charming bougainvilleas everywhere.

Magnets to add to our fridge collection! You know that's a must for us! And by the way, some of these colorful hanging platters are now in our kitchen :D

Ferry back to Marseille and end of the trip...

WHEN ARE WE GOING BACK??? PLEEEASE :D
