"Palmeritas"

A couple of weeks ago, some of my boyfriend's friends were coming to his apartment for dinner&drinks. Should I do something? Yes, palmeritas! The easiest dessert, perfect to grab and share. If you do them once, you'll be asked to do them again and again.

To fill a nice tray you'll only need:

-2 puff pastry
-Nocilla or other chocolate cream
-sugar

First of all, preheat the oven at 200ÂșC. After cleaning the surface where we'll do them, we spread sugar on it. We use quite a while, because the pastry is neither salty or sweet and we want it to taste sugary. Now we place the pastry on the sugar and we press a bit so it sticks on it.

If we want to go for the classic recipe we now spread more sugar on the pastry so it has sugar on both sides, but if we prefer chocolate (and obviously I do) we want a brown layer all over it.

Now it's time to shape it: it's all about folding the pastry symmetrically on both ends, as seen in the pictures, until we put them together.

When we have our pastry completely folded we can start to cut. We have to cut every 1,5cm aprox because we want them thin so they get crunchy. It's important to do it with a clean knife and do only a nice determined cut for every piece otherwise it all gets mixed up and sticky.

Place each "palmerita" in a baking tray covered with baking parchment and paint them with egg. Leave enough space because they'll grow pretty much.

Bake them for about 5-10 mins or until they are big and golden. Be very very careful! There's only a glimpse between golden and burnt! (Once I had to throw away the hole tray) Aaaand...

DONE! There they are:)

If you have to bring them somewhere like me try one (or two), just in case they're poisoned or something.

All packed & ready to go. What a super easy, delicious thing they are! The perfect mixture of soft and crunchy. Plus they make you the perfect guest haha

Desert Raid II

Sorry I've been ill this week... and didn't feel like blogging. Now that I'm completely recovered and I have some free time, here I go with the second part of our adventures through the sand.

Best cars ever! And best driver too :)

It's surprising how the same sand of the same desert can show such different colors... depending on the sun's light, I guess.

By now you should be settled in the atmosphere again... Let's go with 'The shower' story. As I told you, there are no regular hotels down there, but if you order in advance you can have a camp all set up with most services included. They are usually located next to a little building or structure where there are toilets. However, in one of them there was no building. So, no toilet. Believe me when I say that once you finish the daily route all you wish for is a shower... and that was what we got:

Do I need to explain how this works? You fill one of these orange buckets, you bring it with you into one of the 'showers' and... good luck! Certainly not very attractive, specially if you literally have a tone of sand all over your body. Believe me, a tone.
Luckily, my dad's car has a shower (again: my dad's car has a shower!! Incredible, right?!) which we could perfectly use by placing it right next to the 'shower'.

Ta daaah! I told you! It's the best car EVER! :D And that felt like heaven.

I can easily swear that, up to now, this has been the most amazing and utterly beautiful sunset I have ever seen.

After 5 days of race... Happy faces and cold cava to celebrate the FINISH LINE! Great team!!

Last day is about crossing the country up to Hammamet, a beach destination near from the ferry departure spot. Due to it's a relaxed day, we try to make the most of it stopping to see what this land has to offer.

That's the Chott el Djerit, a huge salt lake which is nowadays mainly dry. It has an old famous abandoned bus in it that has been there for a while, as you see.

Yep, Star Wars set! Can't tell very much.. although I've visited this set twice or three times, I've never seen a Star Wars movie! Sorry, I promise I will.

Sidi Bou Said, a very cute town all in white and blue with charming bougainvilleas everywhere.

Magnets to add to our fridge collection! You know that's a must for us! And by the way, some of these colorful hanging platters are now in our kitchen :D

Ferry back to Marseille and end of the trip...

WHEN ARE WE GOING BACK??? PLEEEASE :D
